Release Sean Tembo – Kambwili

By GIDEON NYENDWA

President Hakainde Hichilema should intervene and release Sean Tembo, the Patriots for Economic Progress president detained without charge, PF presidential hopeful, Chishimba Kambwili has said.

Mr Kambwili cautioned that the power that President Hakainde Hichilema has is not in perpetuity and should be very careful how he treats people because he only has two terms to  rule Zambia .

Mr. Kambwili said Mr Hichilema should be wary of what would happen to him when he leaves office when he was treating an opposition leader like the Patriots for Economic Progress president Mr Sean Tembo in such a manner in which he did.

Yesterday Sean Tembo’s parents were allegedly harassed by public service workers for merely wanting to see their son who is in custody at Woodlands Police.

“These are things that you must be thinking of, but it’s like power gets sweet,” Mr Kambwili said.

He said this when he visited Mr. Tembo at Woodlands police station in Lusaka where he was detained without being formally charged.

Dr. Kambwili expressed shock to learn that such things were happening under the leadership of Mr Hichilema who seriously condemned such actions when he was in the opposition.

“Ha, kwena abantu balalaba, (people forget),” he said.

He also said those who have the responsibility like the Inspector General of Police must be punished for keeping Mr Tembo inside without charge.

Meanwhile Police Spokesperson Rae Haamonga said that the police should not be blamed for Mr Tembo’s prolonged detention because they wanted to charge him but he insisted that his lawyer needed to be present.

He said the police obliged but up to now his legal counsel  has not appeared making it difficult because they did not want to abrogate the law.

“We wanted to charge Mr Tembo but he told us that he needed his lawyer to be present so we waited and up to now nothing has come up,” he said.
