MWEPU’S FRIENDS REACH OUT

HIPOLOPOLO players are heartbroken by the news of their captain Enock Mwepu who has been forced to hang up his boots due to a hereditary heart condition.
Mwepu was diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition that can worsen over time and put him at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event, if he were to continue playing competitive football.
Striker Patson Daka who played with Mwepu at Red Bull Salzburg before they both moved to the English Premier League to play for Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively said he was saddened by the news of his “brother” being forced to end his football career due to medical reasons.
“My friend and brother, we started our football journey together and came to England together. It saddens me that we didn’t continue together but our captain as you said health and family are more important than football. We plan and God plans but God is the best of planners,” Daka said.
“I wish you all the best for the future and hope to see your continued involvement in Zambian football in a different way.”
Striker Fashion Sakala encouraged Mwepu to stay strong after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition.
“Life is full of challenges, and one of the things that has made you successful has been your ability to master each new opportunity and I believe you conquered all your opportunities to reach this far.
“I’m so thankful and grateful for all the days and years we have spent together on the pitch.
“You are special and loved! We’re rooting for you as you settle into the new chapter of your life! May your garden always grow and be filled with beauty and happiness. My prayers to you and your entire family is to stay strong during this difficult time,” Sakala said.
Mwepu’s former club NAPSA Stars said; “Words alone are not enough to express how devastated we are to hear the news of your heart condition which has led to your early retirement.”
“We are proud to have had you as part of the NAPSA Stars family, we are proud of what you have achieved, and we trust that whatever your next step is, it will be as successful as your playing career. Accept our deepest thoughts, love and best wishes for you going forward,” The club said. Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg said; “Stay strong Enock, you’re always welcome in Salzburg and you’ll always be a part of our family.”
Meanwhile, FAZ Super League sponsors MTN thanked Mwepu for his efforts to put Zambia on a global map with his magical talent.

And COSAFA saluted Mwepu who was described as a hero who is well loved in the Southern African region.
