UPND toasts Kabushi, Kwacha victory

By NATION REPORTER

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) is elated with the victories of its candidates in the recent Kabushi and Kwacha parliamentary by-elections.

Deputy Secretary General Gertrude Imenda says the victories on the Copperbelt show that the electorate have appreciated the policies of the UPND Administration.

She however bemoaned the voter apathy which characterised the two by-elections in Ndola and Kitwe.

Mrs. Imenda attributed this to the uncertainty that surrounded the by-elections due to counter litigations on the petition by former parliamentarians Bowman Lusambo and Joseph Malanji.

UPND’s Bernard Kanengo scooped the Kabushi seat while Charles Mulenga is the new lawmaker for Kwacha Constituency.

Meanwhile, the opposition MMD has congratulated the UPND for winning the two seats.

MMD Vice President Reuben Sambo says the UPND scored massively in both constituencies because the party focused on telling people the truth.

Reverend Sambo said President Hakainde Hichilema, who camped on the Copperbelt, raised his democratic credentials as he campaigned without malice or violence.

Reverend Sambo said the campaigns were not restricted like before and all parties campaigned freely.

He said the biggest loser in this election is the Patriotic Front which had relied on the courts to overturn the elections. – ZNBC
