ZAMBIA BREWERIES TO RECALL CASTLE LITE BEER

ZAMBIA Breweries Plc has been directed to recall Castle Lite beer bearing batches No. 319 and No. 227
due to quality concerns.
This follows an investigation conducted by the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) which was
aimed at ascertaining the safety of that product in line with the Agency’s mandate under the
Compulsory Standards Act No.3 of 2017.
ZCSA Communications Officer, Caroline Kalombe said in a statement that the Agency has since
quarantined over 828 cases of 330mls Castle Lite bearing batch No. 319 2022 L3 with a Best before date
of March 15, 2023, valued at K65,996 and 440 cases bearing batch No. 227 valued at K85,800 with a Best
before date of February 1, 2023.
She disclosed that the affected products all valued at K151,796 were quarantined in Lusaka, Mansa and
Ndola.
Ms Kalombe cautioned members of the public against consuming Castle Lite from this batch until
investigations are concluded and further guidance is provided.
She also said consumers should ensure they always purchase their products from trusted sources during
the festive season to avoid purchasing products that might potentially negatively affect their health.
Ms Kalombe said ZCSA also directed secondary suppliers of the affected batches to stop distributing the
product until investigations are concluded.
