Avoid ill-will in criticising govt – Mulemwa

PROVIDING checks and balance does not mean criticising everything Government is
implementing, the opposition political parties have been advised.
DNA spokesperson, Spuki Mulemwa said while President Hakainde Hichilema’s intentions to
focus on unlocking rigidities and hurdles to economic growth in an effort to improve people’s
welfare in the year 2023 is most welcome, Zambians expected the opposition to seize the
opportunity by providing credible checks and balances .
“Zambians expect the opposition who happen to be a government in waiting to seize the
opportunity by providing credible checks and balances to government,” said Mr Mulemwa.
He said constructive criticism or alternative solutions in an effort to help government actualize
plans to improve people’s welfare was the best way to do politics.
Mr Mulemwa said the opposition should desist from criticising everything gGovernment did
because once they did that, Zambians would misconstrue their action as out of malice and ill-
will.
He also urged those in government not to reject or ignore everything the opposition proposes
especially if the advice was credible and offered in good faith and in the spirit of nation building
and unity.
“In the same vein we appeal to government not to reject or ignore everything the opposition
proposes especially if the advice is credible and offered in good faith in the spirit of nation
building and unity,” said Mr Mulemwa.
Mr Mulemwa reminded both the opposition and the ruling party that they share a common
agenda and desire to improve people’s welfare, and should therefore work as partners.
He said time for blame games does not help the nation in any way but only achieve disunity in
the country.
