PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema yesterday convened with Lesotho’s opposition parties in Maseru to address developmental challenges and enhance the nation’s stability together.

President Hichilema held a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the opposition in the Kingdom of Lesotho, and underscored the importance of finding solutions to improve the country’s political and economic landscape.
In the meeting, President Hichilema emphasised the importance of reaching a consensus and understanding among the various stakeholders to advance the ongoing reform process in Lesotho.
He said the reform process was crucial for stabilising democracy in the region and promoting economic and social development.
“We are delighted to be here because we believe that in executing our mandate on behalf of our regional body, we decided in meeting with the stakeholders here in Lesotho, we will be able to reach some consensus, some understanding that will lead us towards what Lesotho citizens have chosen for themselves – and that is the reform process,” President Hichilema said.
He emphasised that the primary goal of SADC’s collective efforts was to fulfill the aspirations of the Lesotho citizens and focus on the economic and social development agenda.
The meeting brought together regional leaders and dignitaries representing countries such as Zambia, Tanzania, Namibia, and Lesotho.
Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, chairperson of the SADC Panel of Elders Oversight Committee and the former President of Tanzania, was among the leaders in attendance.
The leaders at the conference collectively acknowledged the importance of regional stability and reaffirmed their commitment to working together to achieve this goal.
Their collaborative efforts aim to serve the citizens who have entrusted them with the privilege of public office.
The outcomes of the conference would be reported to the upcoming SADC summit scheduled to convene in Angola tomorrow.
Before the meeting, President Hichilema paid a courtesy call on King Motlotlehi Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru, Lesotho.
