THE Mining Licensing Committee has issued 118 artisanal mining rights to cooperatives.
This brings the total of artisanal mining rights issued for cooperatives last year to 206.
Mining Cadastre Department Director Samuel Maango said the first 88 artisanal mining rights for cooperatives were approved in October 2023.
Mr. Maango said that letters of offer have been issued to the cooperatives and the mining cadastre will soon go around to authenticate that the people who have been given the rights are resident in the places where they applied.
Meanwhile, Mr. Maango said the licensing committee will sit to consider more cooperatives and other categories of mining licence applications on January 10.
