Banda, Kapumbu aim high

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

CHIPOLOPOLO midfielders Emmanuel Banda and Kelvin Kapumbu have set their ambitions high for the much-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations kicking off tomorrow in Ivory Coast.

Banda, who features for Croatian club Rijeka said his aim is to see the Chipolopolo reach the finals.

Zambia will compete in Group F consisting of tournament favourites Morocco, Congo DR and Tanzania.

Banda said Zambia has an amazing squad capable of going all the way up to the finals at the AFCON.

“I can say that we are very ready for the AFCON. We have a few days remaining and I feel the vibe is already there. We aim to win the first game to start on a high note,” Banda said.

“We have a good squad with good individual players and I feel we are capable of doing anything at the AFCON,” Banda said.

He added that the international camp in Saudi Arabia where Zambia played a training match with Cameron gave the squad an insight of the stiff competition they will find at the tournament.

He said after the friendly against Cameroon the Chipolopolo boys are in high spirits and motivated to compete.

Meanwhile, Kapumbu who plays his club football for Ndola giants Zesco United said Zambia is now ready to compete after a successful international camp in Saudi Arabia.

Kapumbu, who will be making his AFCON debut encouraged his team mates especially the home-based players to work hard and show that they can also play.

Zambia’s first match at the AFCON is on January 17 against DR Congo at the Laurent Pokou Stadium.
