KABWE Warriors Coach Mumamba Numba is confident that Warriors can win the ABSA Cup despite having started the second round of the MTN Zambia Super League with a loss to Napsa Stars last Saturday.

Warriors secured qualification for the ABSA Cup after finishing the first round of the Super League in the top six bracket.

Numba said he has a team that can compete to win the country’s only cup competition which features six teams from the Super League and two from the National Division one league.

“Our chances of winning the ABSA Cup are high. We have a team that can win us the ABSA Cup, what is important is to have good preparations and make sure that we perform on the pitch,” Numba said.

“We have players who are mentally strong and I think we just have to encourage them and push them so that they can give us a victory in the next games,” he said.

Asked what happened in the game against Napsa Stars Numba said; “This is a game we controlled the entire 90 minutes.  We created more chances than Napsa especially in the first half but we couldn’t utilise the chances we created and Napsa capitalised on the mistake we made at the back trying to dribble instead of trying to play simple and it resulted into a goal.”

“These are small mistakes we have observed otherwise the overall performance was okay, we just need to improve on the sense of urgency at the back and make sure that we start banging in goals because we are creating chances but our conversion rate has been very poor,” Numba said.

Napsa Stars stunned Warriors 1-0 thanks to Leonard Mulenga’s superb strike at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.

The defeat to Napsa Stars relegated the Kabwe outfit to sixth on the Super League table with 32 points collected from nine wins, five draws and seven defeats.

Numba is however confident that the latest defeat to the Pensioners will motivate Kabwe Warriors to come back stronger in the next fixtures.
