THE Patriotic Front in Luapula and North-Western provinces have rallied behind the Tonse Alliance for nominating former President, Edgar Lungu as its presidential candidate in the 2026 general election.

In separate statements issued yesterday the two provinces stated that they were behind the candidature of Mr Lungu to contest the 2026 election.

Enock Kapalu, a member of the Central Committee in North-Western Province said the former governing party fully endorsed the nomination of Mr Lungu to vie for the country’s top job in the 2026 general election.

Mr Kapalu said under the stewardship of President Lungu, Zambia witnessed significant strides in the defence of the constitution, the rule of law, and democratic values.

“We stand united in our belief that Mr Lungu’s leadership will steer Zambia towards a brighter, more prosperous future,” he said.

Mr Kapalu said throughout his seven years of leadership, President Lungu demonstrated a rare ability to bring together opposing voices, created a sense of national unity and shared purpose.

“As a party, we firmly believe that Mr. Lungu’s vision for Zambia aligns with the aspirations of the Zambian people, particularly in the areas of economic revival, constitutionalism, and national development.

His focus on restoring the economy through infrastructure development, job creation, and social welfare has laid a solid foundation for a more prosperous Zambia,” he said.

Francis Musunga, Luapula Province PF chairperson said in a separate statement it was only Mr Lungu who could give President Hakainde Hichilema a good run for his position and defeat him in the 2026 general election.

Mr Musunga said the people of Luapula received the news of the adoption of Mr Lungu as the Tonse Alliance candidate with joy and looked forward to his re-election in 2026 just as had been the case with Donald Trump of the United States of America.

“The people of Luapula Province and Zambia at large have seen the massive development Mr Lungu did in the country when he governed our nation from 2015 to 2021, as compared to President Hakainde Hichilema who has failed to fulfil any of his campaign promises he made to the people of Zambia in 2021,” Mr Musunga said.

“Mr Lungu is the only candidate who can rescue our mother Zambia from Mr Hichilema’s destroying of our Republican Constitution, democracy, and rule of law, unity and the collapse of economy. He is our torch bearer and our hope to bring back Zambia, the way it was before UPND took over power,” he said.
