ZAMBIA is one of the three countries from which the Switzerland Government has withdrawn developmental aid and is ending all its bilateral development programmes by the end of the year 2028, it has been disclosed.
The Switzerland government is ending its development aid programmes for Albania, Bangladesh and Zambia and the decision comes after its Parliament allocated less funding for foreign aid in December than the government had requested.
According to Swissinfo.ch, the Federal Council, Switzerland’s executive body, was notified of the cuts to international cooperation on Wednesday last week, which has only affected three countries, including Zambia.
Sources say that there are concerns that the Switzerland bilateral aid cut to the three countries is as a result of poor governance issues, including human rights violations.
“As a result, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will end its bilateral development programmes with Albania, Bangladesh and Zambia by the end of 2028,” reports Swissinfo.ch.
