BARNABAS ZULU

POWER Dynamos sealed the 2024/25 Zambian Premier League title in front of a jubilant home crowd at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Green Eagles yesterday.

A second-half penalty by Brian Masanyinga was enough to hand the defending champions their eighth league crown, taking them to 67 points with one game left to play. The win ensures Power retains the title they last won in 2023.

The decisive moment came after a tense opening hour. In the 35th minute, Power were awarded a penalty when John Soko was brought down inside the area. However, Titus Chansa missed the initial spot-kick, with his effort saved.

Chansa continued to threaten, forcing a save from range in first-half stoppage time. But it was after the break that Power finally found the breakthrough.

In the 63rd minute, with Eagles already reduced to 10 men following Spencer Sautu’s red card, Power earned another penalty.

This time, Masanyinga made no mistake, calmly converting from the spot to send the home fans into raptures.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Eagles defended resolutely but could not find a response. The result leaves them 12th on the table with 38 points.

In other ZPL matches, FC MUZA produced a stunning attacking display to demolish Nkana 5-2 in Mazabuka.

Solomon Mpasela, Given Kalusa, Andrew Phiri, and a brace from Erickson Ngambi powered MUZA to the win, while Lazarous Kambole and Idriss Mbombo netted consolations for Nkana.

Arrows claimed a valuable 1-0 away win over Forest Rangers in Ndola thanks to a Norris Mubanga Kalamba strike.

Atletico Lusaka also earned three points on the road with a 2-0 win over Indeni, courtesy of goals from Benjamin Chisala and Thomas Chisi.

At Sunset Stadium, Zanaco secured a 2-0 victory over “Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers, with Malawian forward Chawanangwa Kaonga scoring both goals.

Lumwana Radiants were edged 1-0 at home by Napsa Stars, who scored through Matthews Tolopa, while Green Buffaloes played out a goalless draw with Nchanga Rangers.

Power now shift focus to their final match of the season with the title already secured – proof yet again of their enduring dominance in Zambian football.
