JUSTICE Minister Wynter Kabimba has no moral right and lacks a conscience in demanding for the removal of immunity of the former President Rupiah Banda, says Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) executive director Pukuta Mwanza.
In an interview Reverend Mwanza said that Mr. Kabimba was facing allegations of corruption by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and therefore it was hypocritical and immoral of him to talk about the corruption involving Mr Banda when he had refused to be investigated.
Rev. Mwanza said that it was shocking to hear Mr. Kabimba supporting calls to have Mr. Banda’s immunity removed and advocating to take the matter to parliament. He said Mr. Kabimba had no right to call for the removal of immunity of the former head of state when he himself was facing serious corruption allegations.
“Mr. Kabimba is exposing himself to an open shooting space. He has no moral right to comment on such issues because he is facing corruption allegations. Has he forgotten that he is facing allegations of corruption for receiving kickbacks from Trafigura? My advise to Kabimba is that the fight against corruption under the PF government is not genuine and for him to call for the removal of Mr. Banda’s immunity is shameful,” he said.
He said that it was regrettable that the same people that pushed for the removal of the late president Frederick Chiluba’s immunity had converged again to do the same in order to pocket more money like the way they did under the Task Force on corruption.
Rev. Mwanza said that calls to have the immunity removed were not genuine especially that those spearheading the calls were themselves corrupt and greedy people whose agenda was inimical to the development and governance of the nation.
“As a church we shall not support such crooked moves aimed at diverting the attention of the people from serious issues. We shall continue keeping an eye on the PF government while we demand for right things to be done. The calls are a non starter as they are unclear on many Zambians,” he said.
He said that justice demand that those calling for justice have to be just themselves unlike a group of certain individuals were conducting and parading themselves like saints on earth.
“We have time and again said that Wynter is not the best person to comment on issues to do with corruption and the immunity of RB. The man is not in the right position morally and principally.
These calls have in most cases proved costly to the nation as we have seen few people benefit in such schemes. There is too much deception in the manner the people in the PF are fighting corruption,” he said.
