For peace and sustained national economic development process to prevail for the benefit of all Zambians, each citizen, political party leaders and each successive government should promote love and unity at all times.
Analyzing some statements from some Zambians, some professional bodies, and some opposition leaders and in some circles of the press, one discovers that we still have some pockets of hatred and some promotion of hate speech against some current government’s leaders.
Little do promoters of such hatred and hate speech know that such statements and conduct negatively affect love, unity, peace and stability in our country. Are such people doing such things deliberately to cause anarchy in the country?
To promote love, unity and peace in Mother Zambia, every citizen should consider every Zambian as fellow human being created in God’s own image. Matthews 22: 39 reminds us to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. Our fellow Zambians are our neighbours.
As Zambians, we should love and unite as one people. We should assemble, sing and dine together as one nation. Wherever there is an event regardless of who has organized it, as long as it is for the benefit of some or all Zambians, every citizen should be proud of such an event; and where possible, participate in such activities joyfully or in sorrow as the case may be.
Zambia is like a church. It doesn’t discriminate against some people. Therefore, all Zambians are welcome to every event for national prosperity.
Doing so prove that Zambians love each other and are united not only to promote and sustain peace and stability but also to promote sustainable national socio-economic development processes for the benefit of all Zambians in all regions.
As a multi-party democratic society, Zambians can do and achieve such a scenario through unity in diversity.
While politics cannot be separated from socio-economic national development related issues, politicking in every national issue makes one wonder whether some people or some political leaders have Zambia at heart or not.
There are issues where one can practice politics on; and there are some which need concerted efforts from all Zambians for public interest to prevail.
For instance, issues relating to development, public holidays, national funerals, disaster related matters should not be political. Such issues affect all Zambians; especially the vulnerable groups such as women, children and the aged.
Such issues cut-across all Zambians regardless of which region or political party one belongs to. Never do such issues consider which political party is in power. Development issues, public holidays, funerals, disasters, illnesses and many other positive and negative developments happen in any region regardless of which part of Zambia supported which political party; and which political party is in power.
Therefore, every Zambian, each political party leader and each successive government leadership should have a big picture about positive and negative events affecting all parts of Zambia regardless of our political affiliations or region where we hail from.
Consequently, learning that some political party leaders are instructed their party members not to be attending state functions is not only strange but it is also retrogressive both to the promotion of love and unity and to the national socio-economic development processes of our country.
One can argue that the term ‘state function’ is as broad as the sky in the air. Almost all socio-economic services we receive and see in a country are state functions. Health, education and law and order and many other services are state functions. So how do some Zambians define ‘state function’ which restricts it to some few isolated events?
State functions are part of national socio-economic development processes. Where there is a funeral of an important person; and government declares that as a state funeral, all Zambians should bow their heads down in sorrow; and, together, seek God’s guidance in such trying moments.
Even when on region or district has experienced some floods or some roofs of a health centre or a school has been blown off by strong winds or rains, government should rush there to restore the condition of such a socio-economic infrastructure; and every well-meaning Zambian should participate to restore a conducive environment for the affected Zambians in such a case!
Now if some opposition political leaders stop their members from attending such functions, how will the affected people be helped? Do such perceptions, attitudes and instructions promote love and unity among Zambians? Does such conduct promote balanced socio-economic development processes in all regions?
Zambians regardless of their political affiliations should differentiate time for political campaigns and time for putting our heads together to sustainably develop Mother Zambia from the huge natural resources our country is endowed with.
Despite our economy going through some restructuring and recovery strategies which we should still appreciate why we are experiencing such financial hardship. It’s for our better tomorrow.
For this country to make strides in economic recovery, we need love and unity from each Zambian. We also need to work as a team for economic recovery strategies to bear good fruits within a short time.
Therefore, pointing a finger at one person or at a group of people for some economic challenges; instead of promoting love and unity; and providing some solutions to put our economy on its rails is not only unfair but it’s also more destructive to our economy.
Let’s remain united for economic recovery strategies to bear more good fruits for more generations to come.
Hatred won’t take anyone closer to achieving one’s objectives. Only promoting love, unity and peace takes one to greater heights both socially, financially and politically.
Love and unity is a pre-requisite for prosperity. Even a political party needs to promote love, unity and peace in a country for it to do well in an election.
Be part of promoting love and unity in Zambia not only for peace and stability to prevail but also for your own social, political or financial endeavours now and in the near future.
