THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has engaged FIFA to assist it with technical support for football development in Zambia following the impending departure of Honour Janza from Football House.
In a statement made available to the Daily Nation Sports, FAZ deputy secretary general Lombe Mbalashi disclosed that FAZ president Andrew Kamanga met FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the FIFA awards in Zurich and called on him to help FAZ address the issue of the technical director position which will become vacant soon.
Mbalashi confirmed that MTN/FAZ Super League side Red Arrows have requested the services of the current FAZ technical director Janza to become their head coach.
“Red Arrows have requested the services of the current FAZ technical director Mr. Honour Janza to become their head coach. This means that the key position will be vacant when he leaves,” he said.
“A request has therefore been made to replace Janza and FIFA will look into this request to support FAZ with technical support,” he added.
The FAZ deputy secretary general also stated that Kamanga also engaged FIFA on the amendments of the FAZ constitution to be undertaken by 30 March 2017.
Mbalashi said FAZ will make a presentation to 15 countries including Turkey, Sweden and a few from COSAFA on its plans for youth and women’s football at a summit to be organised by FIFA next month.
“Fifa will send a delegation to the FAZ ordinary council meeting to deal with all constitutional amendments, which will include a reduction of electoral college from 350 to about 80,” Mbalashi said.
He said the reduction of the FAZ electoral college as confirmed by both FAZ and FIFA will in no way disadvantage any FAZ members as they will be accommodated for under the decentralized FAZ structures.
