THE introduction of the Ministry of Religious Affairs leaves a lot of unanswered questions, from the church mother bodies as guidelines have not been given by the minister on what the fate of the four church mother bodies is, Bishop John Maambo has said.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, Bishop Maambo said there was need for the ministry to offer guidance on the position of the church bodies.
He said the ministry should make their position known and meet with the church mother bodies to agree on how they would work together.
“The Ministry of Religious Affairs should give the church mother bodies directions on how they will operate with the establishment of the ministry because at the moment they are unaware, “he said.
He advised church leaders to fulfil their mandate by speaking for the voiceless in society.
He said the church should make governmnet workers accountable and not be compromised for the love of money.
He stated that the church was guilty of not playing their role in uniting the country after last year’s general elections.
“The church has not taken the role of uniting the nation seriously but instead they are busy competing like politicians. These politicians are from our churches, and the responsibility of teaching them accountability rests on us, “he said.
He stated that name calling and tribal talks should not be part of a country that has a national day of prayer and fasting and a Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He explained that leaders getting into public office should first use the Bible and then the Constitution to swear, adding that this would ensure the country is governed based on Christian values.
“By making it a mandate for all those getting into public office to swear by the Bible first then the Constitution, we would be encouraging accountability as the country would be governed based on Christian values, the Bible says, people who are called by my name will humble themselves and call upon my name, I will bless them and heal their land and that would bring Gods attention on our country, “he advised. He said the country should not take for granted the peace they enjoyed.
He advised pastors not to make the church a money making venture but rather do what the Bible mandated them to do.
“Stop making church as a business venture of making money that you use for your selfish interests, “he advised.
