KANCHIBIYA district campaign manager Stephen Kampyongo, has assured the farming households that Government was committed to diversifying the agriculture sector for it to benefit the people and the  grow local economies.

Addressing residents at a Food Reserve Agency (FRA) maize satellite depot in Kanchibiya constituency, Mr Kampyongo assured the local farmers that the PF government was commitment to grow local economies through empowerment of residents.

Mr Kampyongo said Government is happy that farmers have already started selling their maize to FRA as this would ensure that the national reserves are secured.

He explained that the factors that influenced the maize prices were also controlled by forces of supply and demand among other factors, but Government would ensure that it secured enough food for the country.

“We thank God for blessing Zambia with a bumper harvest. Zambia is not the only country in the region with a maize surplus this season. In all fairness, these seemingly lower prices of maize will have a positive effect in the long run,” said Mr Kampyongo.

He observed that as long as the price of the staple food remained low enough for the majority to afford, inflation would certainly be lower and in turn, this would result in lower prices for nearly everything including farming inputs such as fertilizer, seed and pesticides.

Mr Kampyongo, who is Shiwang’andu member of Parliament, called on youths not to involve themselves in violent activities and substance abuse, and instead venture into productive activities such as farming and entrepreneurship programmes that would sustain their lives.

He called on party organs in the province to continue supporting President Edgar Lungu and the PF party that had a clear and honest agenda for the Zambia people.

Mr Kampyongo is in Kanchibiya constituency for local government campaigns ahead of the district council chairperson elections which will be held on 14th September, 2017, and the PF party has fielded Mwansa Chipalo for Kanchibiya ward.

Other party officials that accompanied Mr Kampyongo include deputy campaign manager Sunday Chanda, Provincial Chairman Mwansa Kapeya and Kanchibiya MP Dr. Martin Malama.
