IT is absolutely despicable and treacherous for some multinational companies to sponsor political figureheads to cause anarchy in this country which is a citadel of peace and stability.

These known desperate politicians are colluding with transnational companies, obviously for business interests, to launch a smear campaign to portray President
Lungu and his Government as corrupt.

Of late, these unpatriotic citizens have been championing a misleading campaign that there is breakdown in law and order and that extrajudicial killings and corruption were prevalent in the country.

This is why latest revelations by a member of the Patriotic Front’s (PF) publicity committee, Mr Brian Hapunda, that some multinationals have joined hands with some eminent politicians to carry out a vicious and disingenuous campaign against the
government should not be taken lightly.

The government should quickly mount an exhaustive investigation to get to the bottom of this matter and those found wanting should be exposed and consequently
punished accordingly.

Zambia is a bastion of peace and stability and it is therefore mindboggling that some people have opted to spread lies against their own country for their own self-aggrandisement and to appease their foreign masters.

Is it strange that even as these dodgy politicians spread lies about lawlessness in their own country, asylum seekers have continued fleeing into Zambia seeking solace from turmoil in their own countries?

A case in point is the mayhem in Congo DR which has seen over 5, 000 asylum flee from that country into this country which is well known as a haven of peace.

So why are these political leaders playing crying wolf? Zambians are watching and will not hesitate to hold them responsible in the event that this country was plunged into turmoil.

Like most developing countries, Zambia is host to numerous multinational companies that are engaged in useful social and
economic ventures.

But while we appreciate the vital role they play in the economy of this country, it is unacceptable and for them to interfere in internal political matters of the host country.

We are mindful of the fact that through their operations, some multinationals in some Third World countries have poisoned the minds of some politicians and other
gullible citizens that they mean well.

Our advice to those multinationals who are bent on sponsoring some politicians that so they can subtly cause chaos up to the 2021 elections to think twice about their actions.

They should not misunderstand the good hospitality they are enjoying in this country for weakness but as a mark of humility.

The time has come for the government to act tough before the image of the country is deeply destroyed. The sooner the government institutes a thorough investigation into this matter the better!
