IT is premature and unfair for Zambians to judge the Patriotic Front (PF) government led by President Edgar Lungu in just one year when he has not finished his first five-year term in office, PF media committee member, Tabo Kawana has said.
Mr Kawana said he was confident that the PF government under President Lungu will deliver on its campaign promises shame armchair critics.
He said though it may not be seen by now, Zambia will be more industrious, prosperous, stable and an all-inclusive society at the end of 2016-2021 PF mandate.
Mr Kawana has, however, urged Zambians to be patient as the ruling party was doing everything possible to fulfill its 2016 campaign promises.
He observed that within one year, President Lungu has demonstrated his commitment towards improving the livelihood of Zambians through the massive development projects undertaken.
Mr Kawana said that so far, Mr Lungu has served the people of Zambia selflessly and with a passion to improve the living standards of the people, especially the poor.
He said the PF has recorded remarkable growth in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, and an improved the economy.
He emphasised that the PF manifesto 2016-2021 aimed to consolidate the gains made in the implementation of the 2011-2016 manifesto.
“On 11th August, 2016 the Zambian people went to the polls to elect a government that will run the affairs of this country for the next five years. So five years is not over for people to claim that PF has failed, it is premature to judge us in one year when we still have four years to deliver what we promised.
“When we sought the first mandate from the Zambian people, we set out our goals for our time in office and in our quest to make Zambia a better place for all, we set out goals that were realistic and achievable. Watch the space, President Lungu will deliver various projects that we had promised to implement during our five-year tenure of office,” Mr Kawana said.
In the next four years, he said, the PF undertakes as a priority to complete all projects that commenced in our first term.
He indicated that so far under the road sector, the PF government has been implementing the road projects aimed at transforming Zambia into a land-linked country.
Mr. Kawana said apart from creating jobs, the road projects have been instrumental in contributing to the opening up of new business opportunities in the country.
He said appropriate policy interventions have seen a resurgence of investor confidence in our economy.
Mr Kawana added that in the agriculture sector, the PF intend to make diversification a reality and create more jobs through value addition. The priority focus areas in the remaining four years were to make Zambia a land of opportunity and advancement towards a prosperous and secure future.
