ROGERS KALERO writes

THE decision by In-But Free (IBF) to get involved in the fight against corruption in correctional facilities will help improve delivery of quality services to inmates and officers in the Zambia Correctional Services (ZCS).

IBF is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) concerned with the welfare of inmates in correctional facilities and has been very active regarding the health of inmates

ZCS Copperbelt Regional Deputy Commander, Mulenga Nkondwa, said the ZCS was grateful to IBF and its effort to support the service and the government in promoting, advocating and contributing to a corrupt free Zambia.

Mr Nkondwa said this when he officially opened the Anti-Corruption Sensitisation workshop in Kitwe.

He said it was great recognition for all officers to be drawn from different regions and stations to get knowledge concerning corruption which was a global concern.

“The knowledge from this workshop will definitely enhance the realisation our goal statement which is ‘providing quality correctional services. Corruption is a cancer that has globally devastated many families in and outside correctional facilities.

“This workshop clearly demonstrates the importance that IBF attaches to the delivery of quality services to In-mates and officers in ZCS. We are grateful as ZCS for the cooperating partners like IBF and their effort to support the service and government in promoting, advocating and contributing to Corruption free Zambia,” Mr Nkondwa said

Mr Nkondwa also thanked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officers for assisting to disseminate informative and educative message on corruption

“I wish to assure you that your being here is not in vain because the information that you are going to impart in us, will be put to good use. I wish also to pay tribute once more to our cooperating partner, IBF for working with ZCS in improving services in correctional facilities,” he said

And IBF Director Nawa Sanjobo said he was hopeful that the information shared on corruption would help various stakeholders to explore ways in which they could best fight the vice.

“We hope the information generated and shared will help us explore ways in which we can best fights the vice of corruption and its devastating effects,” Dr Sanjobo said
