Over US$12 million has been invested in fibre optic and Information Communication Technology (ICT) services in the last seven years.

Lusaka Telecom Solutions Business Development Manager, Mohamed Abd El-razek, said the company had invested over US$12 million in the last seven years and was expected to create more than 1,000 employees.

Currently, the company has over 200 employees and Mr El-razek indicated that they plan to increase the number of jobs to 900 by March this year.

Mr El-razek said this after the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) acting Director General Albert Halwampa toured the company on Friday.

He said the firm had 30 local sub-contractors working on various projects across the country.

Presently, the firm has operations in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Botswana, Malawi, Uganda, Mauritius, Namibia, Tunisia, Egypt, Mozambique, Ghana, and Zambia as the headquarters.

Mr El-razek said the firm would endeavour to support Government’s programmes by proving solutions in the ICT sector.

“We have three business lines, namely fibre optic solutions, microwave, ICT and wireless solutions and infrastructure and power solutions.

“With Covid-19, telecommunication services have become important for people to continue transacting and running their day to day business,” he said.

Mr El-razek indicated that the firm intends to expand its market reach and corporation with Government institutions this year, stating that most of its clients are from the private sector.

He said the company was already in talks with the Ministry of Technology and Science to give sponsorship programmes.

Earlier Mr Halwampa indicated that ZDA was ready to take the company to the market and discuses new business ideas so that the country can develop.

“We are proud to partner  with you especially now that the new dawn government is promoting trade and investment which is one of the things which can drive the growth of the economy. We will support your company in any way possible,” he indicated.
