LEAVE Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) alone if you will not lift her oath of secrecy which she has requested for, Patriotic Front (PF) presidential hopeful, Chishimba Kambwili, has said.

Mr Kambwili said  it would only be fair for the head of state to stop this whole debacle by allowing Ms Siyuni to give her side of the story so that this matter could be put to rest once and for all.

“My appeal to the head of state is for him to give her the opportunity to speak and if they fail to do so then they should stop persecuting her,” Mr Kambwili said.

He said it would be unfair for the head of state not to lift Lillian Siyunyi’s oath of secrecy as she would be vilified in the courts of public opinion since her hands are tied and bound by virtue of being in that office.

Mr Kambwili said Ms Siyuni was on firm ground to ask the head of state to lift her immunity because she needed  express permission from the President to divulge certain information.

She said the DPP had received a backlash because of her silence which was not her fault because she had sworn not to divulge any information.

He said people like former intelligence chief Xavier Chungu and himself once requested that their  oath be lifted so that they could defend themselves on certain issues that were levelled against them.

“I once wrote to then President Edgar Lungu to have my oath lifted so that I divulge certain information since my office could not allow me to just speak without getting permission from the appointing authority,” he said.

Mr Kambwili said it was shocking that some lawyers were giving a wrong narrative that the head of state had no jurisdiction when they once served as cabinet ministers and understood the rationale.

He said that the head of state needed to be magnanimous by lifting her oath  so that she could defend herself unlike what was going on as she remained gagged.
