PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should take action against Health Minister Sylvia Masebo if indeed it’s true that she solicited for a bribe in the award of a tender for construction of hospitals, Bishops Council of Zambia (BCZ) General Secretary Bishop Abel Kaela had said.
Bishop Kaela said the UPND promised to run a clean government and therefore should ensure that those in senior positions are not shielded from corruption allegations.
Bishop Kaela said the church is concerned about the serious allegations that the Health Minister demanded facilitation fees and a luxury vehicle for the hospital construction tender to be successful.
“The allegations by TFM Holdings executive chairman Mcebisi Mlonzi, against our Health Minister that she requested for R2 million and a Mercedes Benz, is too grave to be ignored by the appointing Authority,” said Bishop Kaela.
He said there is need for the new dawn administration to fight corruption regardless of who is involved in the vice so as to ensure that the anti-graft fight is not seen as a tool to fight political opponents by the current administration.
“If the fight against corruption is to succeed, the new dawn administration should ensure that even those that are holding senior positions in government and suspected to be corrupt are investigated and if found wanting, prosecuted,” said Bishop Kaela.
