FAZ Super League champions-elect Power Dynamos propelled to 65 points on the Super League table after humiliating Prison Leopards 3-0 in a week-33 fixture played at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Power were given a guard of honour by the visiting team in their last home fixture witnessed by their passionate fans who filled the stadium to capacity.
It didn’t take Power, drilled by Mwenya Chipepo long to grab the opening goal which came in the third minute through midfielder Frederick Mulambia.
Mulambia rose high to head home Joshua Mutale’s cross.
Thomas Chideu doubled the lead a minute before the half hour mark through a thunderous shot from inside the box.
Chideu made things worse for Prison Leopards when he completed a brace two minutes before the break. The striker benefitted from some brilliant interchange of passes between Joshua Mutale and Mulambia who had tormented the Prison Leopards backline. Prison Leopards had a chance to score the consolation goal 10 minutes into the second half when Cletus Mulolwani was sent off for a second bookable offence which earned the visitors a penalty.
Striker Junior Zulu stepped up to take the penalty which he sent over the bar for Power to snatch maximum points with a clean sheet.
Meanwhile relegation threatened Nchanga Rangers missed a chance to escape the relegation zone after being beaten 2-1 by Kansanshi Dynamos.
A brace from Djo Ntambwe made things worse for Rangers who grabbed a late consolation goal from Mathews Chabala.
Meanwhile, Sensational Zanaco FC have survived relegation despite losing 2-1 to MUZA FC in a Week-33 Super League fixture played on Saturday afternoon in Choma.
Goals from Rickson Ngambia and Andrew Phiri guaranteed a win for MUZA who have now eventually qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup with a game to spare.
Chiteta Kwalombota scored the consolation goal for Zanaco but it was not enough to rescue the Bankers who were reduced to 10 men after goal keeper Charles Lawu was given a red card for handling the ball outside the box in the first minute of the match at Nakambala Stadium in Mazabuka.
The poor officiating which resulted in Zanaco coach Wedson Nyirenda recording his second defeat since joining the bankers angered the gaffer who described the officiating as the poorest he has ever witnessed.
“We cannot be on the same narrative year in year out. That kind of officiating is the worst I have ever seen. We can’t have officiating like that. The same decision you give to the other team you can’t give to the other side that is how it is but there is nothing we can do but congratulate MUZA they have done it and we will support them in continental,” Nyirenda said.
Nyirenda cautioned the Choma-based Super League outfit to prepare adequately for the continental championship which he said was deferent from the domestic league.
“You can’t judge a team based on one game. I can’t say because they have played well they will play well in CAF. They just have to prepare well. Continental football is way deferent from this local game. That one is high level football so they have to prepare well, they have to psyche their players and if anything, they have to beef up the team,” Nyirenda said.
He noted the need for ZANACO to start the rebuilding process after surviving relegation.
