IT is shocking and embarrassing that President Hakainde Hichilema has decided to resurrect rumours that he had impregnated Levy Mwanawasa’s daughter, Chipo when Zambians had long forgotten about the matter and had moved on, Given Lubinda has said.
Mr Lubinda, the Patriotic Front (PF) acting president has appealed to President Hichilema to resist the temptation of discussing individuals, especially those in his office but should instead concentrate on discussing issues affecting the lives of the people he is governing.
Mr Lubinda, who is also the acting chairperson of the Tonse Alliance said it was disheartening that President Hichilema had chosen to make Chipo a subject of Dr Mwanawasa’s and his wife, Maureen memorial instead of remembering them for what they did for Zambia.
Mr Lubinda said in an interview yesterday that at every public occasion, President Hichilema was bringing himself into ridicule and advised that the head of State should endeavor to stick to written text instead of talking about himself and his feelings and emotions.
“HH (President Hichilema) is paranoid. President Hichilema should strongly resist the temptation of discussing individuals, especially those in his office. Instead of the President discussing the legacy of Levy Mwanawasa, he decided to resurrect runours of him impregnating Chipo. Those are issues the President should never discuss in public.
But he is a very scared and haunted man and one can clearly see from the amount of security that surrounds himself. He has so many police officers around him,” Mr Lubinda said.
Mr Lubinda said he was perturbed that he was subjected to a physical search during the remembrance of Levy Mwanawasa and his wife Maureen when everyone else were allowed to freely enter the Church.
“I went to that memorial service not as a politician but because I knew Levy and Maureen outside politics. I went there as a member of a clan where Maureen came. We hail from the same village,” Mr Lubinda said.
Mr Lubinda said he was treated like a criminal at a memorial which was public and so he opted to go back home where he spent two hours reflecting on the life of the Mwanawasas.
He claimed that the church was filled by plain clothed police officers and other security officials.
“President Hakainde Hichilema requires spiritual healing. Some pastors or priests should go and pray for him.
What we expect of the President when in public is for him to talk about policy issues such as the shrinking burial space and why Levy (Mwanawasa) and other Presidents had to seek medical services outside the country instead of talking about disrespectful and embarrassing issues such as pregnancies,” Mr Lubinda said.
