...‘Abayellow’ begin CAF Champions League quest for honours

ZAMBIAN champions Power Dynamos are on the move, with the Kitwe giants set to travel to Rwanda today as their latest CAF Champions League adventure gets underway.

The “Abayellow” are scheduled to fly out from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka this morning aboard Proflight, flying to Johannesburg before connecting to Kigali on RwandAir.

Power will face Sudanese giants Al Merrikh in the first preliminary round, with the opening leg set to be played in Rwanda.

The Zambian champions will then host the return fixture between September 11 and 13, with a place in the second preliminary round at stake.

Should Power overcome Al Merrikh, they will face either Algeria’s JS Saoura or Guinea’s Horoya AC in the next round.

Victory over that two-legged tie would earn the Kitwe side a coveted place in the CAF Champions League group stage.

Power enter the competition with plenty of confidence after successfully defending their MTN Super League crown.

The Kitwe outfit finished the 2025/26 campaign on 78 points from 34 matches, securing their ninth league title and extending their impressive run of domestic success.

They will also be determined to build on their historic continental campaign last season when they reached the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in their history.

Power boast a proud record in African club football and remain the only Zambian club to have won a major CAF men’s club competition, having lifted the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991.

That continental pedigree will be put to the test once again as “Abayellow” begin their latest quest for African glory.

With Al Merrikh standing between them and the next round, Power know there is little room for error.
