‘Let HH meet Lungu unconditionally’

THE State should give Hakainde Hichilema an opportunity to meet Presi- dent Edgar Lungu without conditions, former Founda- tion for Democratic Process (FODEP) executive director Chifwembe Mweenge has said.

Mr Mweenge said Zam- bians wanted to see to it that the two leaders met to iron out the differences and discuss issues prevailing in the country. He said in an interview yesterday, it was, therefore, important that there was no conditionali- ty attached to the dialogue of the two. Recently Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo while in Parlia- ment informed the nation that President Edgar Lungu was more than ready to meet Mr Hichilema to discuss on various issues.

Following the develop- ment, United Party for Na- tional Development (UPND) through its spokesperson Charles Kakoma said its leader Mr Hichilema was also ready to meet the Head of State.

But Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chi- pampe told the Journal- ists at a press briefing at State House that the UPND should formally write to the State if its leader was ready to meet Mr Lungu.

And Mr Mweenge in an interview said it was import- ant there was no conditions to be attached for the two leaders who were willing to meet. He said such condi- tions which the State had attached would compel the two leaders to fail to meet.
