NERIA’S Investments Limited will deliver 63,575 tonnes of fertiliser to Eastern Province for the 2020/2021 farming season under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
The agro- commodity trading company would deliver 35,520 tonnes of D-compound and 28, 055 tonnes of urea to the province.
Neria’s General Manager, Martin Chaikatisha, said the company had so far received 15,000 tonnes of the commodity in transit from Beira, Mozambique.
He was speaking in an interview at the Chipata main holding warehouse.
“We have been receiving tracks from Beira in preparation for the 2020/2021 farming season. So far we have received 15,000 metric tonnes out of the expected 63,575 metric tonnes.
“We are expecting the figures to go up because we are receiving at least 15 tracks per day,” Mr Chaikatisha said.
He said Government had advised the firm to ensure that all the fertiliser was in the province by May so that the Inputs could be delivered in time to the farmers.
“Our plan is to deliver the fertiliser by May waiting for delivery to other districts. We take this business with utmost seriousness. FISP borders on food production and food security of the nation. With enough food supply, we expect a productive nation,” he added.
Mr Chaikatisha assured the farmers that Neria’s would deliver the commodity in time.
For the 2019/2020 season, Eastern Province received K65,733 tonnes of fertiliser.
