Kalaba questions opening of diplomatic missions in Latin America, Caribbean


HARRY Kalaba, the Citizens First (CF) president has demanded to know why the UPND administration has approved to establish formal diplomatic relations with four countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The four countries are Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominican Republic, El Savaldor and Panama.

“What is it that they want in Panama? In the absence of a clear explanation, it will be easy for us to conclude that some UPND leaders want to be stashing money in some of those countries under the guise of diplomatic ties,” Mr Kalaba said in an interview in Lusaka. Mr Kalaba, a former Foreign Affairs Minister explained that bilateral relations between or among countries were informed by the interest of a particular country.

Mr Kalaba who served from 2014 to January 2018, wondered what economic benefit Zambia would derive from the five countries Cabinet approved to establish formal diplomatic relations.
