Lockdown correctional facilities – Chileshe

ZAMBIA Correctional Services (ZCS) Commissioner General (CG), Chisela Chileshe has demanded for a lockdown of Lusaka, Kamwala and Chainama correctional facilities.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ZANIS in Kabwe yesterday, Dr Chileshe said Covid-19 is a very contagious infection virus and a lockdown of correctional facilities in terms of movements of inmates to the outside community will help prevent the spread of the global pandemic.
The Commissioner General says he is worried that because of congestion in correctional facilities, any case of Covid-19 may spiral out of control.
Dr Chileshe has also announced that visits by members of the general public to inmates especially in epicenters has been stopped.
He urged the members of the community who may have incarcerated relatives to understand the situation.
And Dr Chileshe has further directed officers doing shifts and coming from areas that have been declared epicenters for Covid-19 to undergo mandatory quarantined for 14 days before reporting for work.
He also admonished the officers to keep their uniforms very clean while those who are not in epicenters should not move or travel to areas like Lusaka and other hotspot areas unless on official duties.
He said officers should also adhere to high personal hygiene when going for work to avoid spreading COVID-19.
