MORE than K80, 000 has been spent by the Mufulira Secondary School Alumni Association on the refur- bishment of a chemistry laboratory at the school which was in a dilapidated state.
And Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has given out K25, 000 to- wards the rehabilitation of his former classroom at the school
Alumni association chair- man Sydney Chewe said they have spent K80, 000 on the refurbishment of the chem- istry laboratory to improve the learning environment at the school
Mr Chewe said science was one of the important sub- jects because it contributed to development in various ways hence their decision to refurbish the laboratory
He said the alumni will also put up a second bore- hole at the school to help im- prove water supply.
“We thought we should come back to our school and help improve infrastructure because infrastructure is very important in develop- ing the nation.
”This is why we thought we should refurbish the chemist laboratory to ac- ceptable levels. A total of K80, 000 has been spent on the refurbishment,” Mr Chewe said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mum- ba, who is a member of the alumni association said he will give out K25, 000 towards the refurbishment of his for- mer classroom at the school. He said he was impressed that the alumni which was misunderstood during its formation was churning out good works to the benefit of the school and its pupils.
He urged the school ad- ministration to work closely with the alumni association in improving the welfare of pupils and infrastructure.
He also said K200, 000 from the Constituency De- velopment Fund will go to- wards the refurbishment of the ablution block.
“We will not fail but con- tinue to set good standards for this school, this is why as MP personally I will con- tribute K25, 000 for the re- furbishment of my former classroom nine G one. To en- sure that things continue to improve at the school K200, 000 will be contributed to- wards the ablution block and my emphasis is to ensure that the school management and alumni continue work- ing together so that these pupils will take over from us to make the school better for learning, ” Mr Mumba said.
