FORM your own political party if you think you are popular and stay away from President Edgar Lungu’s lane, Lusaka lawyer Kelvin Bwalya Fube has been cautioned.
Mr. Bwalya has also been challenged to name Patriotic Front (PF) members of Parliament who he claims are afraid of recontesting their seats on the ruling party ticket for fear of losing due to President Lungu’s candidature in the 2021 general elections.
In an interview yesterday, Parliamentary Deputy Chief Whip Tutwa Ngulube said the credibility of Mr. Bwalya’s statement is doubtful because it is coming from a person who allegedly has no credibility himself.
Mr. Ngulube, who is also PF Kabwe Central MP, said Mr. Bwalya is not a politician and does not speak for members of Parliament; and urged him to mention the PF MPs who are afraid of standing on its ticket next year.
He said Mr. Bwalya’s statement is highly speculative and a sign that the latter is speaking out of sour grapes.
“KBF cannot win any election not even as a councillor. We want to tell him that all PF MPs are behind the leadership and candidature of President Edgar Lungu and there is no single member of Parliament who can be scared to stand on its ticket.
“As far as I am concerned and as far as we are concerned from the Chief Whip’s office, there is no single MP who can risk standing on any other party ticket than PF. Right now the competition is so stiff because everyone wants to become a PF MP. Everyone knows that the PF is a popular brand, the PF is a very strong party and standing on PF is half of the job already done if you want to become MP,” Mr. Ngulube said.
He said Mr. Bwalya’s statement must be discarded with the contempt it deserves because he is not telling the truth and not speaking on behalf of any PF MP.
He said Mr. Bwalya is allegedly not a person anyone can trust when he says something, adding that he doubts if Mr. Bwalya ever tells the truth.
Mr. Ngulube said if Mr. Bwalya thinks he has people he must form his own political party and face the PF in the political battlefield.
He said as far as the PF is concerned Mr. Bwalya cannot beat President Lungu and that there is no other candidate that can beat President Lungu in next year’s general elections.
“If he thinks we are telling lies let him come out in the open and face us because right now the whole country is voting for President Lungu. If he reads Zambia’s politics people are very happy with the huge infrastructure development in the capital city and surrounding cities.
“People are saying they will vote for President Lungu because he has touched their lives. People who never believed that President Lungu will deliver have seen that he has done it in record time,” Mr Ngulube said.
