ZAMBIANS should not entertain politicians who voted against the progressive Bill 10 when they go to ask for votes this year, Chief Chikwanda of Mpika has said.
Chief Chikwanda said 2021 is the time to teach selfish politicians a lesson for having let down Zambians during the Bill 10 voting in Parliament.
The traditional leader said Bill 10 was progressive and needed support from all Zambians as it was aimed at addressing lacunas in the republican constitution for the benefit of the people.
“It is now time to teach a lesson those who represented their selfish interests and not Zambians. Actually, they should just shun them when they go to ask for votes,” Chief Chikwanda said.
He said that the collapse of Bill 10 was an act of betrayal by parliamentarians who acted against national interests.
Last year, the Constitution Amendment Bill no 10 of 2019, also known as Bill no.10, failed to garner the support of two-thirds of Members of Parliament and flopped.
The bill required 111 votes to pass but only managed to get 105 votes.
Later, the United Party for National Development celebrated the fall of Bill 10 at the plush residence of their leader Hakainde Hichilema.
The party members were also seen chanting slogans and danced while praising their MPs for ensuring that the Bill could not go through.
