IT IS a moral obligation for every political players to engage into serious dialogue to end the simmering issues from anger and emotions following the 2016 general elections, All People Congress party president Nason Msoni has demanded.
Mr Msoni said it was not disputed that some political players were still emotional and therefore were always issuing threats.
He said that was not necessary but instead they should explore a mechanism that would bring peace and unity in Zambia.
He said President Edgar Lungu was the Head of State and therefore had powers to engage other political players into meaningful dialogue, which remained a cornerstone of a civilized administration.
He said the current situation would not be resolved if political players wanted to do things their own way, adding that political parties were not formed to only be in power, but instead should be champions of peace and ensure challenges that required political address were put to rest.
“President Lungu is the Head of State and therefore he has powers to engage all the political players to come together and discuss the issues of national interest and find the lasting solution to these issues that are coming out because other grouping feels aggrieved by the 2016 result.
“My honest view is that the opposition political parties cannot solve it alone, because the political impasse that has befallen Zambia needs resilience and willingness to champion peace and unity in the country,” he said.
Mr Msoni maintained that any prejudice that might come, would be meaningless even if justice was to prevail, if the current impasse that required political solution was ignored.
He said dwelling on resultant effects coming from anger would not be helpful, instead the cause was what should be dealt with as such would not end.
“No matter how possible it maybe that they are some issues in the court, any outcome will be meaningless without addressing these issues on the political point of view of grassroots,” he said.
He urged political players to tone down their rhetoric statements and accept that dialogue was the best ever key to help them develop the nation, adding that anger and threats was not user friendly in Zambias on grounds that it could scare investors.
