The calls by Zambians to have fresh elections are genuine because the current government has failed the people of Zambia, Mike Mulongoti has said.

Mr Mulongoti said the people of Zambia feel insecure about what was happening in the country because President Sata and the PF have completely failed the people of Zambia.

He said the people of Zambia had observed that for the past one year five months the Patriotic Front was not taking this country forward but backwards.

The former minister said it was better for  the country to go to elections where visionary leaders could be put in office if the people thought the situation was deteriorating.

“Zambians are insecure because of how this government is handling issues and if the better way out is to have elections then the calls are genuine and we all support that.

This government has already shown that it has failed to be in charge of fuel, Mealie meal, fertiliser and many more things that were affecting the lives of the people in country.

“Let them change but because the people have spoken and we feel it’s the best way to go. How can they hide the where about of the President? A lot of issues have been raised but they are not being addressed,” he said.

Mr Mulongoti said there was need for a driving force so that people could differentiate between the now and the future.

“Let us go for fresh elections and we know that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has the capacity to handle this because they plan for it. Zambians should not be taken for a ride and we feel the PF is not helping this country grow in democracy and development,” Mulongoti said.

Mr Mulongoti observed that all the calls were in good faith because Zambians wanted a better Zambia that what they have now.

He challenged Mr Sata and the PF to prove their popularity by calling for fresh elections and see how Zambians have changed.
