UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) deputy national chairperson for youth and sports development, Michael Chuzu has been arrested by police in Lusaka and charged with theft by servant.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Alex Chilufya confirmed the arrest to the Daily Nation yesterday.
Mr. Chuzu, who is a Chipata based resident was on Police wanted list in Eastern Province for issuing a statement on Chipata Television (CTV) that the UPND did not recognise President Edgar Lungu as the legitimate elected Head of State.
Mr. Chilufya disclosed that Mr. Chuzu was arrested last week at Emasdale Police station and is currently in remand in Lusaka.
“Police in Eastern Province have been looking for Mr. Chuzu for issuing statement that his party does not recognise President Edgar Lungu as Republic President. This man was on run and hiding, but we are informed that he has been arrested in Lusaka for a different offence,” Mr. Chilufya said.
The Commissioner explained that Mr. Chuzu was in a different case issued with a bench warrant by a court following his skipping of bond on a criminal charge of theft by servant.
He said Police officers from Chipata would be travelling to Lusaka to pick up Mr. Chuzu, who would be warned and cautioned over a statement he issued on Chipata Television Station last week.
Mr. Chuzu was last week quoted on Chipata Television saying the UPND does not recognize President Lungu because his victory in the August 11th general election was not genuine.
