THE UPND has postponed its Eastern Province card renewal and party mobilisation activities which was scheduled for today in Chipata because of the escalating cases of cholera.

In an update on cholera issued yesterday, party president Hakainde Hichilema said it was sad that the card renewal and party mobilisation activities scheduled for Chipata today has been postponed due to the cholera outbreak.

Mr Hichilema said the party leadership intended to visit cholera affected areas but that after wide consultations with the state health professionals, they were advised that their presence may lead to an increase in the spread of the epidemic.

Mr Hichilema said as leaders who listen and take professional advice they had a duty to comply so as to save lives hence also their Chipata gathering being postponed.

He has urged all citizens to join hands in ensuring that professional advice was adhered to so as to combat the cholera pandemic.

Mr Hichilema said the party had readily made available some health requirements to some of the affected areas such as chlorine and detergent paste.
