Bupe Mulenga, a Lusaka PF councillor of Kanyama constituency’s Munkolo Ward 12, was at the weekend involved in a road traffic accident when the vehicle she was driving hit a cyclist who later died on Makeni’s Bayuni Road.

The Police were however reluctant to give the full official details of the accident last Saturday, but police sources disclosed that the matter was being handled at Embassy Police Station on Kafue Road.

The sources said that the deceased, whose name has been withheld was hit on Saturday, along Bayuni Road in Lusaka’s Makeni Township.

The source also confirmed that Ms Mulenga was charged with causing death by dangerous driving but that she was released on police bond.

The source said that the body of the deceased was immediately deposited at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary but that was still waiting for postmortem.

“I can confirm that a cyclist was run over by a white Toyota Prado and the matter was reported at Embassy Police,” the source said.

A check by the Daily Nation however revealed that the number plate of the vehicle which was involved in the accident was concealed.

And the police could not release any information on the pretext that the officer in charge of traffic was not around.

A bicycle, which one of the officers confirmed was the one which was being used by the deceased, was found lying near the police entrance in a mangled state.

Meanwhile, the officer also said that the postmortem could not be done yesterday as was scheduled, as the relatives of the deceased were still looking for means to transport the body to the village.
