MUSHINDAMO Town Council has set aside funds to construct a computer laboratory in Mujimanzovu chiefdom.

Speaking when he graced this year’s Nkambi traditional ceremony of the Kaonde-speaking people of Senior Chief Mujimanzovu, North Western Province minister Richard Kapita said the computer lab will help the pupils to increase their academic performance in school especially for practical computer lessons.

Mr Kapita said Government, through the Ministry of General Education has made computer studies a compulsory subject for Grade 8 and 9 pupils as well as integrated ICT subjects at primary school level.

He said IT is no longer a debatable matter that Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the 21st Century has become a basic skill required in all areas of individual, national and global development.

“That is why Mushindamo Township Council has decided to construct a computer lab in the chiefdom so that pupils can have access to computers, Mr Kapita said.

He said the construction of computer lab in the chiefdom also means that more teachers will have to be trained to enable them teach the subject.

Mr Kapita said that ICT is an important skill that enables all pupils in different schools around Zambia to acquire the right means of dealing with the modern world.

And responding to the concern raised by Senior Chiefdom Mujimanzovu on the upgrading of Mujimanzovu Primary School to a secondary school, Mr Kapita said the programme to upgrade primary schools to secondary is on-going  and Mujimanzovu Primary School will be considered soon.

“The way Mapunga Primary School was upgraded to a secondary, the same will be done to Mujimanzovu school.  So be rest assured that something is being done,” Mr Kapita said.

And Senior Chiefdom Mujimanzovu has pledged to work and support the Patriotic Front government to foster development in his chiefdom.
