Zambia, Qatar game halted

THE much anticipated battle for bronze between Zambia and Qatar at the second edition of the “Zlatko Markovic” Under-15 Croatia Invitational Tournament in Osijek has been halted after two Zambian players tested positive to Covid-19 in Croatia.

FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala confirmed in a statement issued by Communications Manager Sydney Mungala that the two players tested positive after the daily Covid-19 tests which the players were subjected to as part of the tournament regulations.
Kashala said the affected players would be isolated as per health regulations.
“We regret to announce that the Under-15 national team will not play their third and fourth play-off with Qatar after two of our players tested positive to Covid-19,” Kashala says.
“The safety and health of the players is more important. As you are all aware we live in strange times with the Covid-19 pandemic which has claimed a lot of lives worldwide. The health authorities have subjected the rest of the team to requisite health protocols and have been found negative.”
Kashala hailed the Croatia Football Federation (CFF) for having invited Zambia for the tournament which saw the Zambians wining one game from the two games played before setting up a meeting with Qatar.
Zambia commenced its campaign at the youth championship in Croatia with a 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and lost 2-1 to Romania and was due to play Qatar yesterday in the third and fourth play-off.
