THE opposition Democratic Assembly is determined to make meaningful contribution to the country’s growing democracy by criticising the Government constructively and not through the use of insults, says party president Maxwell Mwamba.
Mr. Mwamba said the party would continue to provide checks and balances to the Government based on issues at hand and that they would commend or criticise positively.
In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, he said in the interest of democracy the DA would not emulate political parties who used insults or demeaning language to convey their message but would use other platforms.
Mr. Mwamba said the attainment of the country’s political independence would be irrelevant without economic liberation and has called on the general citizenry to support and rally behind the policies that the Government has embarked on.
He said that it was important to give the ruling Patriotic Front room and chance to implement their development projects.
“We will commend the good things and criticise Government when it goes wrong; we will not use insults. For those who want to insult, it’s unfortunate but for us as DA we will criticise on merit.
“We believe the country’s political attainment will be irrelevant without economic liberation, hence we urge all citizens to rally behind this elected Government to enable them carry out their economic policies,” he said
He said the first three years were the most critical phase for the Government to revive the economy and that it was not the time for politicking.
Mr Mwamba said the party looked forward to participate in various national events and use such platforms to express their views on pertinent issues affecting the nation.
