THE EVANGELICAL Youth Alliance (EYA) has said that Zambians and the International Community should ignore the lies being propagated by the opposition political party leaders who were not representing Zambians but their bellies.
Last week, three Zambian opposition political parties appealed to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to fund the Zambian government saying it would use their resources recklessly.
Nevers Mumba of Movement for Multi-party Development (MMD , People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti and Charles Milupi of the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) respectively, were speaking at a joint press briefing in Lusaka on Friday after their alliance partner Hakainde Hichilema of UPND was transferred from Lusaka Central Correctional center to Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison in Kabwe. “We appeal to the IMF and the World Bank in their effort to help us as they come to this country in July or whenever, we asking them not only to listen to the government.
“They should Come and talk to us as opposition leaders and listen to us on the issues of governance so that they can feel the pain and anguish of the Zambian people. Don’t fund illegalities and people that are going to use that money on their personal trips outside this country and we have never a President who travels as much as this President,” Mumba said.
But in an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, EYA President Moses Lungu said that it was extremely irresponsible for the three opposition political leaders who were not representing ordinary Zambians to utter such misplaced assertions.
He charged that the opposition political party leaders’ continued alarmist statements which end up to be lies was an embarrassment to the Country.
The EYA President further urged the World Bank and IMF not listen to falsehoods being peddled by the three political leaders.
He said it was clear that the arrest of UPND leader Mr Hichilema had nothing to do with the demise of good governance in the country, nor was it political but that it was a legal matter.
Rev. Lungu said that it was unacceptable that some political leaders without the followings should mislead the IMF at the expense of poor Zambians.
