THE Bible is being abused at swearing-in ceremonies by people who promote illegalities and constitutional breaches once installed in Office.
UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Provincial Party Secretary Winnerson Ng’uni says that the use of the bible when swearing in government officials should be scrutinized because the same officials have failed to protect and defend the country’s constitution even after holding the holy book in their hands.
Mr. Ng’uni suggested that the bible should be spared because it is a respectable book which no one should use to cheat the public.
He said that he personally does not find it fit for officials to be holding the bible when their conduct is contrary to Christian values especially that the country has been declared a Christian nation.
“You see when these officials hold the bible and promises to defend and protect the country’s constitution, but immediately after that they do contrary; that means they are cheating the public.” He said
“So what should happen is that the use of bible should be spared so that those appointed can just be walking in those offices because they are cheating.” Mr. Ng’uni said.
He said that several times some elected and appointed officials have involved in corrupt activities contrary to the Zambian constitution which they have promised to defend and protect.
“Corruption is corruption, in the best interest of the country let these ministers step down because what they are doing is against Christian values. MoreoverZambiais a Christian nation so we don’t what them.” He said.
Mr. Ng’uni accused the PF government to have failed to exhibit transparency in the way it is handling the country’s affairs
And the UPND in southern has joined the cause by civil society organizations and Non Governmental Organization to query the PF government’s decision to allocate a K 1.5 billion to the office of the first lady which the party says is unconstitutional office.
Mr. Ng’uni observed that the allocation of K 1.5 billion to the office of the first lady is unjustifiable and unacceptable.
He said that UPND in Southern does not support such decisions and policies because that amounts to corruption and abuse of public resources.
Mr. Ng’uni said that the country is in need of drugs, better education standards, better roads and many other important issues than allocation the money to a non existence office.
“As a country, we need drugs in our hospitals; we need better education standards, better roads. So we can’t afford to misuse the resources to such offices because the resources we have are not enough.” Mr. Ng’uni observed.
He wondered where exactly the office of first lady is situated and who operated under the same office because that has never been heard off since time of memorial.
Mr. Ng’uni has since urged opposition MPs to stop the scheme by the PF government of allocating public resources to what he termed as illegal offices.
“If we have people especially opposition MPs who believe in defending and protecting the constitution, then we need to stop PF government’s scheme of allocation money to illegal offices.” He said.
He was speaking in an interview in Livingstone over the weekend ahead of the ACC day commemoration.
