TODAY’S political players need to emulate the great examples of Anderson Mazoka and Michael Sata who both conceded defeat after losing the 2001 and 2008 presidential elections respectively, Chief Mulundu of the Lunda-speaking people of Mambilima has said.

Chief Mulundu said the then opposition leaders followed the due process of the law when they lost the elections, adding that even after they exhausted processes, they did not resort to violence.

Speaking during the upgrading of Mambilima stage II clinic to a First Level Hospital, the chief called on politicians to promote peace.

He described the politicians refusing to acknowledge the presidency of Mr Edgar Lungu but serving under the vice president in Parliament, who was elected in the same process as shocking.

“In Zambia everyone is aware that the votes that ushered President Lungu and vice president Inonge Wina into their offices are one and the same but it is amazing that some politicians are not ready to recognise and work with President Lungu, yet the same politicians are ready to work under the Vice President who is the leader of Government business in Parliament,” he said.

He said politicians needed to be mindful of the fact that they would best be remembered not because their party ruled this country but as advocates of peace.

He charged that posterity would judge politicians harshly if they were remembered as leaders who advocated for violence.

He challenged politicians to choose whether to be leaders who brought about destruction or leaders who made Zambians hate one another.

He commended the government for the upgraded hospital that would service a population of over 40,000 people.

And Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the new hospital was part of Government’s commitment to deliver quality health services to the people.

Dr. Chilufya assured the people of Mambilima that they would be provided with two new ambulances to effectively refer medical cases to the provincial hospital.

Meanwhile, the provincial minister, Nickson Chilangwa challenged the health workers operating from the hospital to be professional or risk being fired.

The minister said health workers needed to serve the people diligently and deliver quality health services to the people.
