CHISHIMBA Kambwili’s failure to appear for interrogation at Lusaka’s Woodlands police station before the Zambia Police anti-fraud squad at 14:00 hours yesterday was due to cowardice, Chilufya Tayali has charged.

Mr Tayali, the Economic and Equity Party (EEP) leader, accused Mr Kambwili of being frightened of detention hence his falling ill with highpertension.

The embattled Roan constituency lawmaker was summoned on Thursday, barely 72 hours after his arrest on Tuesday, for three charges of fraud, namely forgery, altering of false documents and giving false information to a public officer.

On Thursday through his lawyers, Mr Kambwili confirmed being summoned and said he was more than ready to appear before the police anti-fraud squad at Woodlands police station.

But in a dramatic turn of events, Mr Kambwili, who the previous day looked very fit and courageous was suddenly reported to be unwell.

One of his lawyers, Mr Christopher Mundia, of C.L Mundia & Company, told police that his client (Mr Kambwili) was not available as he was on bed rest as advised by his personal doctor.

But Mr Tayali charged that Mr Kambwili’s failure to appear before the police anti-fraud squad was as a result of his cowardice.

Mr Tayali charged that Mr Kambwili was a big coward who has now grown cold feet after “roaring” louder than his strength.

“This is what I have been saying that Kambwili is a big coward. In my view, I don’t think he is really sick, I’m sure Kambwili is just scared because he is a big coward,” Mr Tayali said.

He challenged Mr Kambwili to be man enough and face the police he dared on Tuesday.

“He recently said he was not scared of President Edgar Lungu’s police when he held a press briefing but how come he has suddenly started getting sick when he was summoned? Let him be man enough and just appear before the police if he is innocent. Anyway, I wish him a very quick recovery so that he appears before the police,” Mr Tayali said.
