PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Kwacha Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Joe Malanji has challenged constituency and ward leaders in the area to ensure that the presence of the ruling party is felt at the grassroot level by helping the vulnerable in their respective areas.
Mr Malanji said the presence of the ruling party should be felt at the grassroot level through the good works of its representative at ward and branch level.
He was speaking yesterday at Continental Lodge in Kitwe when he donated 25 bicycles and motorbikes worth more than K130,000 to ward and constituency leaders.
Mr Malanji said party leaders at ward levels should ensure that they serve the interest of the people who voted for them. He donated K30,000 to the constituency executive and K5,000 to each of the six wards in the constituency after giving K5,000 to the PF choir.
“Prove that you are leaders by delivering on your campaign promises. Let us get down to work and ensure that the presence of our party, the PF is felt through helping the vulnerable in our community. When you hear there is a funeral, let us visit funeral homes and find out how we can help them.
“Leadership is about delivering when it matters most and finding solutions to the problem. So let us show the people that we are equal to the task. So these motorbikes and bicycles should be used for party mobilisation and visiting the wards and branches,” Mr Malanji said.
He said he was expecting ward leaders to intensify party mobilisation and ensure that they put in place branches that were genuine and loyal to the party and President Edgar Lungu. “We don’t want to hear that we have 31 branches, but when we go on the ground, you find there are no branches. You have to make sure that you have people on the ground,” he said. Mr Malanji said he was working on various developmental projects like the construction of the 1×3 classroom block and offices at Valley View Primary School which would cost K590,000, 2×5 class room block at Riverside Extension Basic School which would cost K2.5million. He also said the other projects included the construction of KR bridge in Kwacha township which would cost K130,000, Mutupa Bridge which would cost K380,000 and Musonda compound bridge which would cost K63,000. The meeting was attended by Kitwe District Vice-Youth chairman Moses Musonda, Lubwa ward councillor Godfridah Chulu, Riverside ward councillor Chando Mbao, Ipusukilo ward councilor Mwango Sata, Kwacha ward councillor Alex Chembo, Chantente ward councillor David Phiri and PF cadres.
