KABWE residents yesterday ran amok after a pregnant woman of Katondo Twonship was sent away by nurses at the local health centre only to give birth by the road side near the clinic.

Government has apologized to the woman who was denied the chance to deliver at the local health centre, forcing her to give birth to twins on the road.

The victim identified as Kodra Semu was subjected to humiliation, embarrassment and stigma when she delivered the twins in the full view of members of the community, including children.

But, Government through Kabwe mayor prince Chileshe has unreservedly apologized to the mother of the twins and her family.

Mr Chileshe who was accompanied by his wife, Clara-Bwalya tendered the apology when he visited the mother of the twins at the same health centre where she was sent away on account that she was not due.

Meanwhile, police have condemned in the strongest terms the conduct of both staff at Katondo clinic and the residents.

Central province police Chief Lombe Kamukoshi said the conduct exhibited by the residents was unacceptable and that those involved in the riots would be brought to book.
