GOVERNMENT has commended Lafarge for promoting the health and safety of their employees and families through the hosting of a sports day.
Ministry of Transport and Communication acting permanent secretary, Yese Bwalya, said the hosting of the sports day would help in the promotion of fitness, adding that there was need for Zambians to observe safety and keep healthy.
He appealed to drivers to be cautious on the road and safeguard lives and commended the company for upholding good health.
And Lafarge chief executive officer Vincent Bouckaert announced that the money raised during the Lafarge marathon had been donated to charity.
“Lafarge Zambia donated K20,000 to Chilanga Mother of Mercy hospice as one of the beneficiaries from the proceeds of the Lafarge marathon which was held on 29th April 2017,” he said. He explained that the company considered health and fitness as a priority, adding that this was what led to the commemoration of the health and safety day.
“Health and safety are Lafarge’s overarching values and in everything we do we have to consider health first. This is why the company sets aside a month dedicated to health and safety and during this month a number of activities, including designing improvements in personal performance as well as awareness campaigns within the plant and the community, are undertaken’’ he said.
The sports event included dental, cancer and eye check-ups as part of their commemoration of the Lafarge safety and health day.
