PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called for the restoration of common values that define humanity by reaching out to the neighbours especially those in need to help make their lives better.

In a Christmas message President Lungu said there was no greater good than making the cause of others better and no greater fulfillment one pursues than making a contribution to bettering humanity.

President Lungu said by doing so the nation was not just advancing its time-honored tradition of tolerance as a nation of great diversity, but fulfilling its Christian values.

“As Christians, Christmas is not just a festival, but a strong point of reflection on the values that Christ himself taught us, so as we do so we inevitably make our lives better too.

“Let us go out to the world and reach out to the indigent of our society and do as much as possible to help, to provide community service and contribute to actions that safeguard and not undermine public security on public roads, in public places and other communal areas where people are merrymaking,” said President Lungu.

President Lungu also urged Local and Central Government authorities to double up their efforts against the cholera outbreak in Lusaka so that it does not spread to other areas.

“Wash fresh foods thoroughly, boil drinking water; wash your hands regularly, avoid handshakes and unnecessary communal gatherings and let us all act in one accord to defeat cholera together we can succeed,” Mr Lungu said.

The Head of State appealed to residents especially in affected areas and those from other neighborhoods to act responsibly by avoiding what may worsen the outbreak.

President Lungu further appealed to those charged with the responsibility to deliver farming inputs to act with greater effort by taking all necessary steps and help farmers to respond to the possibility of increased danger of army worms devastating maize fields in some areas.
