Motorcade crash survivors rushed to UTH

TWO of the four police officers involved in the presidential motorcade road accident near Mpika have been evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital, Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi has disclosed.

Ms Kamukoshi said that the other two officers are still admitted to Serenje District Hospital.

She said that the incident happened on Sunday around 17:35 hours after the left rear tyre on one of the vehicles in the presidential convoy burst. The vehicle lost control and overturned on the right side of the road, causing the death of Sergeant Mulenga of State House.

She named the four that were injured as Inspector Viyela,

Sergeant Kachongu, Inspector Kalulu and Sergeant Manda.

“Inspector Viyela sustained painful right shoulder and chest pains, Sergeant Kachongu sustained a cut on the head and general body pains while Sergeant Manda sustained cuts on the right arm and a swollen forehead,” she explained.

Ms Kamukoshi said that Sergeant Mulenga died after sustaining multiple body injuries and his body has been deposited to Chitambo Mission Hospital mortuary, adding that the motor vehicle was extensively damaged.
